We'll walk in the parade along the route to Fisherman Wharf Park where the festival will be held from 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm., RAIN or SHINE!

Please join us in the parade even if you don't want to dress in drag! (its optional)

At 4:00 pm VARCS will have the draw for our Cruise Lottery!

Victoria Salmon Kings

At "press time" the Salmon Kings are leading the Bakersfield Condors in the series for the first round of playoffs, 3 games to 1! This from a team that has only been in existence since 2004! They have a very good chance at winning the Kelly Cup! So, lets go Salmon Kings!

VARCS has sent a letter to the Victoria Salmon King organization requesting permission for VARCS to hold another "Red Ribbon Campaign" at a game in honour of World AIDS Day. We have also asked the club to consider donating a portion of the ticket sales to VARCS from that game.

As the Salmon Kings are on the road to victory, we will wait to hear from them when they have had a chance to organize the next season. For now, lets just cheer our home team on!!

VARCS Recruiting Board Members

Being on the Board of Directors will allow you to be involved with the society from a new perspective. The Board meets one evening a month for approximately 2 hours. At times there may be extra hours on a voluntary basis due to events, special occasions, etc. There are no requirements to become a Director and HIV+ individuals are encouraged to be involved. If you are inerested or if you know someone who might be, please call our office at 388-6220 and we will explain the process. Elections will be held at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.

AIDS Walk for Life, 2008

VARCS will again be joining with the National AIDS Walk for Life. This year, walks across Canada will be held during the week of September 14th and 21st, 2008. The Victoria's Walk will be held 14 September 2008.

Fundraising

However, this does not mean that we are holding of on the fundraising efforts! It is clear, WE NEED YOUR HELP! This year we are holding a "Toonie Challenge". It does not require a lot of work or time! We would love to see businesses challenge each other, schools challenge each other, recreation centers, social groups etc. If everyone could donate ONE TOONIE, we would end up with an extremely successful fundraiser that would make more money than all the other years combined! ONE TOONIE, from everyone is all it takes! Please pass this information on to your friends, families, anyone who could have a donation can/box.

Just let us know if you would like one in any of the above mentioned examples so we can register you! When it becomes full, give us a call and we'll pick it up and empty it for more donations! We are ready to start right now! This way, by the time the September Walk comes around, most of the fundraising will be done and we won't be competing with some of the other long term, worthy and high profile fundraisers. So, please, call, register and start donating a TOONIE! Again, VARCS is grateful for all the support! Call 388-6220 or email info@varcs.org

Attention: All HIV Positive Women

You are invited to participate in a Positive Women's Advisory Committee. It is being formed to serve as an advisory council by request of the Positive Women's Network (PWN) and the Oak Tree Clinic to generate ideas for programming and funding. This is an opportunity to discuss and take action on the issues affecting positive women.

We would also like to reach other AIDS Service Organizations (ASO's) that the women of BC access for treatment and support. We are a diverse community and would like this group to be inclusive of all women living with HIV/AIDS. Every voice is valuable. All meetings will be confidential. Some meetings may take place by teleconference.

If you are interested or would like more information about The Positive Women's Advisory Committee, phone: 604-692-3000 or toll free: 1-866-692-3001; email: pwn@pwn.bc.ca
