AIDS Walk and MasquerAIDS

Sunday, 12 September 2004, Noon - 7pm

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the AIDS Walk in Victoria. To honor the memories of those we have lost and the tragedy of the pandemic that is now 23 years with no signs of slowing the Walk will be a memorial. Beginning at noon at the Legislature, Walkers will be invited to wear black masks with red ribbons and carry placards with the names of those we want to remember.

Immediately following this sober and significant march, we will hold a street fair on Broad Street to celebrate life. MasquerAIDS is a new way to honor the living and the lost with joy. This event will also serve as the vehicle to raise much needed fudns for Victoria's three AIDS groups (Victoria Persons With AIDS Society, Victoria AIDS Resource & Community Service Society and AIDS Vancouver Island) as well as the Victoria Native Friendship Centre.

Music, Dancing, Street Performers, Games, Food, Face Painting, a Tea Dance, Beer Garden and an evening Drag Show will end a day that we hope will offer the community a chance not only to memorialize those lost to AIDS but to Celebrate Living in the midst of a struggle that is not yet over...
